The Adopt a Guardsman Foundation has been formed to raise funds for the men and women of the South Carolina Army/Air National Guard Family Readiness Groups. This is a non-profit organization with an IRS 501-C-3 code. Your donations will be tax deductible.

The Adopt a Guardsman Foundation is asking each patriotic South Carolinian to donate $10.00 or more to support the citizen soldiers/airmen as they protect our country’s security in this War Against Terrorism. This fundraiser is called -Don’t Let Your Guard Down – Give $10 or more for the Men and Women of the South Carolina Army/Air National Guard-. Your donation will provide the purchase of needed support items with postage, and provide financial support to the Family Readiness Groups who deal with the concerns of the soldier’s families.

BACKGROUND

Army and Air National Guard personnel responded immediately to President Bushs call to service after the tragic events of September 11, 2001. In Americas finest tradition of the minuteman, the citizen-soldiers of South Carolina secured key government installations and airports in South Carolina. Following the initial call-up, Army and Air National Guard units were activated to federal service for homeland security and in direct support of operations overseas. Over 3,000 South Carolina Guardsmen have been called away from their families, jobs, and communities to perform critical missions in the War on Terrorism. The ADOPT-A GUARDSMAN Program provides a means for citizens, civic organizations, churches, schools and businesses to show support for these fine sons and daughters of South Carolina who have answered the call to service. The program has been in effect since March 2002 and has forwarded over 5,000 letters and packages.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN YOU ADOPT-A-GUARDSMAN?

Every effort will be made to ensure that the number of items sent will match the number of personnel in the unit so no one will be left out - enlisted and officers serving overseas and in the U.S. They are all away from their families and deserve thanks from us here at home. You will receive, first and foremost, the satisfaction of knowing that in some measure you have contributed to the War on Terrorism by enhancing the morale of South Carolina’s citizen soldiers serving in our Armed Forces. In addition, you will likely receive a personal note from the recipients of your gift.

IF YOU WANT MORE INFORMATION, contact at the phone number listed but please be patient since it is manned by volunteers and you may be asked to leave a voicemail, which we will answer as soon as we can.
